Originally released in 1978, Platinum 3776, is one of Platinum’s iconic penseries and over the years, Platinum has added many colors as well as limited and special editions to the 3776 line. 3776 stands for the height of Mount Fuji, the highest mountain and when it was first released in 1978, it was awarded the “Good Design Prize” by the Japanese government. In 2011, the “Century 3776” series was released in honor of theapproaching 100th anniversary of Platinum and wasdesigned to maintain the quality standards defined by the original 3776 combined with the needs of a modern fountain pen user: new sleek design, comfortable writing balance, and smooth flow. Century 3776 employsPlatinum’s own “Slip and Seal Mechanism” that employs a spring in the cap to force an air tight closure around the nib, thus preventing ink from drying out in this fountain pen for up to a year.
In February 2022, Platinum first released Platinum Century 3776 – Shape of Heart, a limited edition fountain pen released as a special Valentine’s Day item in Japan. In this fountain pen, 2 heart-shaped pieces, which are usually punched out to make the breather hole on the Century 3776 nib, are placed together with zirconia crystals in the dome of the pen. While the heart pieces are usually melted down and reused as material to make more gold nibs, the Shape of Heart model incorporates them in the design. The pair of heart-shaped pieces enclosed in the dome gives a feeling of connection with your partner, making it an ideal gift for someone precious.
InFebruary 2023, Platinum is now releasing “Shape of Heart Ivoire,” in matte white and rhodium trim with two heart-shaped rhodium-plated gold cutouts hidden among crystals in the dome of the pen.
